The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has officially welcomed Maharazu Salisu Faru, the lawmaker representing Maradun 2 Constituency in the State House of Assembly, following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Dependable NG reports that the defection ceremony, which took place at the APC Secretariat in Gusau, was overseen by the State Party Chairman, Tukur Umar Danfulani. Faru was accompanied by a significant number of supporters, including five former PDP ward chairmen: Ahmad Lawal (Sarkin Samari) of Gidan Goga Ward, Sanusi Ahmad Liman of Tsibiri Ward, Lawal Mohammed of Kaya Ward, and Shingi Dan-Abu of Janbako Ward, as well as the ex-official PDP member for Maradun, Salisu Dodo Faru.

Speaking on the occasion, Faru attributed his decision to leave the PDP to what he termed Governor Dauda Lawal’s “failure to fulfil campaign promises” and his subsequent “lack of concern” for the welfare of the constituents. He specifically cited insecurity, which he noted was the principal reason voters supported the current administration, as an area where the Governor had shown no commitment to alleviating the plight of the people.

The lawmaker also levelled accusations against the Governor, stating that the Maradun 2 Constituency had been marginalised and loyal party members were being sidelined. He further asserted, “There is no fairness in Dauda’s administration. Only favoured PDP members and members of his cabal are reaping the dividends of democracy,” reflecting a deep dissatisfaction with the internal operations and reward system of the state’s ruling party.

Faru described the PDP as “a party in crisis at all levels,” claiming that the ongoing internal turmoil was prompting many of its members, including high-ranking officials and governors, to defect to the APC. He concluded his address by noting that his move was also an expression of solidarity with Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and former Governor Abdulaziz Yari, whom he commended for fostering unity within the Zamfara State chapter of the APC.
