Tanzania Unveils Final 28-Man AFCON Squad Featuring Samatta & Msuvas
Tanzania head coach Miguel Gamondi has announced his final 28-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Morocco, confirming the players who will attempt to guide the Taifa Stars out of the group stage for the first time in their history.
Dependable NG reports that the squad is headlined by captain Mbwana Samatta and experienced striker Simon Msuva. Samatta earns a key place in the team after recently rediscovering his form with French Ligue 1 outfit Le Havre. Msuva, who currently plays in Iraq, has been a standout performer for the Taifa Stars in recent years and is included in the final selection.
The 28-man squad is heavily dominated by players from the Tanzanian Premier League, blended with key overseas-based talents like defender Haji Mnoga (Salford City, England) and midfielder Tarryn Allarakhia (Rochdale AFC, England).
Tanzania, who will be making their fourth AFCON appearance, have been drawn into a demanding Group C alongside the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Tunisia, and regional rivals Uganda. Gamondi’s side will kick off their campaign against Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Fez on Tuesday, December 23.
