Suspected Kidnapper Killed in Delta Forest Gun Battle
A suspected kidnapper was killed during a fierce gun battle between security operatives of the Delta State Police Command and a group of criminals in the Obiaruku Forest. The operation was carried out in collaboration with local community volunteers.
Dependable NG reports that the incident was confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
The command’s State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) operatives, working alongside community volunteers, were on an intensive patrol when they received credible intelligence indicating that suspected kidnappers were gathering within the Obiaruku forest to mobilize for an imminent attack.
“Acting swiftly on the information, the operatives advanced towards the location to forestall the planned criminal activity,” the statement detailed.
According to Edafe, as the security team approached the suspected hideout, the criminals immediately opened fire from multiple directions in an attempt to repel the advancing forces. “The operatives responded with superior firepower, leading to the death of one suspect, while others escaped into the thick forest with various degrees of injuries,” the statement confirmed.
The police team successfully recovered significant evidence from the scene, including one AK-47 rifle with forty-two rounds of live ammunition, nine mobile phones, and various charms.
