Ondo Police Arrest 55-Year-Old Man for Impregnating Minor
In a disturbing development that has sparked outrage in Ondo State, the police command has confirmed the arrest of a 55-year-old man, Ademola Joshua, following allegations that he sexually abused and impregnated a 15-year-old girl. The arrest was made public on Monday, January 5, 2026, by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who described the incident as a “grievous case” of sexual exploitation.
The case was brought to light on Sunday, January 4, when a resident of Ilara-Mokin, identified simply as Adewale, lodged a formal complaint with the authorities. Adewale alleged that the suspect had been engaged in an unlawful and persistent sexual relationship with his niece. The abuse was reportedly only discovered after family members began to investigate the sudden and unexplained circumstances surrounding the teenager’s pregnancy.
Upon receiving the report, the police acted swiftly, transferring the case to the specialized Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Unit of the command. DSP Jimoh emphasized that a discreet and comprehensive investigation is currently underway to ensure all facts are gathered. The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to face arraignment in a court of competent jurisdiction as soon as the preliminary investigation is concluded.
This arrest comes amid a nationwide push for more stringent enforcement of laws protecting minors and vulnerable persons. DSP Jimoh reiterated that the Ondo State Police Command would maintain a “zero-tolerance” policy regarding sexual and gender-based violence. He stated that the force is committed to ensuring that perpetrators face the full weight of the law, stressing that the dignity of women and children remains a non-negotiable priority for the current administration.
The command further noted that this operation aligns with the broader reform-driven agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. Over the past year, the IGP has championed the expansion of GBV desks to all police divisions across Nigeria, a move aimed at making justice more accessible for survivors. By moving the specialized unit into action in Akure, the state command hopes to demonstrate the practical impact of these national reforms on local safety and accountability.
While commending the public for their role in reporting the incident, the police spokesperson urged residents of Ilara-Mokin and beyond to remain vigilant. He pointed out that timely reporting by community members is often the most effective tool in dismantling cycles of abuse. As the 15-year-old victim begins the difficult journey toward recovery and maternal health, the police have assured the public that they will not compromise on the prosecution of this case.
