The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has welcomed Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that the governor’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) signals the political death of the opposition party.

Dependable NG reports that Keyamo, who spoke on Friday during the flag-off of the 7km Ipo Town–Airport Bypass and the commissioning of the Ikwerre Road–Igwuruta–Airport Road Corridor in Port Harcourt, credited President Bola Tinubu’s influence for the political shift in the South-South region. The Minister asserted that President Tinubu has delivered significantly for the South-South, making it possible for all states in the region to now align with the ruling APC.

Welcoming Governor Fubara, Keyamo used strong language to express the significance of the defection, stating: “We set a trap to catch a frog, we caught an elephant in the person of Sir Siminalayi Fubara, welcome to the fold of the progressives sir, welcome to the big family, welcome to the largest party in Africa.” He added that Fubara’s entry into the APC means “the souls of the PDP has left the party.”

Keyamo, who was present at the Government House as Governor Fubara received his official APC membership card, noted that Rivers State, historically, has never thrived in opposition politics. Governor Fubara had previously announced his intention to join the APC on Tuesday, explaining that the move was necessary for the stability and interest of the people of Rivers State and was also a gesture of appreciation to President Tinubu, whom he credited as the reason he remains the Governor of the state.
