Fubara Explains APC Defection: ‘PDP Failed to Protect Me’
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has revealed that his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling party was fundamentally driven by his former party’s failure to protect him during the prolonged political crisis in the state.
Dependable NG reports that speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Fubara disclosed that he had sought support from the Federal Government after facing serious challenges that threatened his position and political survival.
“I went to see Mr. President not just for a personal visit, but for a consultation on state matters. The most important outcome of that meeting is that we now have full support to leave where we were because we didn’t get the protection we needed,” he said.
Fubara officially announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the meeting, taking along his core supporters. He explained that the APC offered the necessary support and protection to navigate the turbulent political waters in Rivers State.
He added, “If President Tinubu had not intervened, there wouldn’t be a Siminalayi Fubara today. We have the people and supporters with us. Our decision is to move to the APC and fully support the President’s second-term bid.”
Fubara’s defection is considered a major political shift in Rivers State and is widely expected to significantly impact the state’s political dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
