Ex-Ayade Aide Seeks Peace After Legal Victory

Dr. Oscar Ofuka, the former special adviser on Cocoa Development and Control to ex-Governor Ben Ayade, has called for an immediate cessation of the lingering crisis plaguing the cocoa sector in Cross River State. His appeal for peace follows a recent court judgment that definitively cleared him of all allegations that had shadowed him throughout his tenure under the Ayade administration.

Ofuka made the passionate plea during a public appearance at the Presbyterian Church in Bendeghe Ekiem, Etung Local Government Area, where he led a thanksgiving service. Addressing the congregation, he emotionally recounted his months-long legal and political battles, attributing his survival and resilience solely to divine protection. “If not for God, I would have been dead by now. I am alive today because of God,” he stated, a declaration that drew a wave of applause from the attendees.

Having emerged from a period of intense scrutiny and conflict, the former aide focused his message on reconciliation. He specifically reached out to those he described as his “brothers” who had been in conflict with him, urging them to put aside their differences and embrace unity for the greater good of the community. “For my brothers who have been at dagger drawn with me, let us bury the hatchet and forge ahead as one. I am not a greedy man. Let us end this fighting and allow God to rule,” Ofuka implored, emphasizing that the continuous infighting has been detrimental to the entire sector and the community.

Ofuka noted that the church had served as his bedrock of strength, particularly since his appointment concluded in May 2023 and the controversies surrounding his work intensified. He stood by his actions during his time in office, arguing that he had fought for the local population. “I stood firm for the people of Etung and secured royalty for them,” he maintained, acknowledging that his assertive stance had inevitably attracted both criticism and support from various factions within the community.

Addressing rumors that had circulated regarding his whereabouts, the former special adviser dismissed claims that he had fled the country. He insisted that he remains committed to the people and the church, publicly pledging support for the renovation of the church building as a tangible sign of his commitment.

Beyond the cocoa sector and his personal legal victory, Ofuka expressed grave concern over the escalating insecurity in the area. He stressed the necessity of collective action and spiritual intervention to tackle the threat. “We need to rise up and be vigilant. The men of God need to pray,” he urged, announcing his concrete plans to personally complete the construction of a police station as a community effort to enhance local security and law enforcement capabilities. His appeal thus blends a personal triumph with a broader call for community-wide peace, unity, and vigilance.
