The Delta State Police Command has delivered a major blow to illicit drug trafficking in the state, announcing the arrest of a staggering 161 suspects during a targeted, intelligence-driven raid in the Agbor area. The operation, executed by the Buffalo Tactical Team, underscored the heightened focus of law enforcement on dismantling drug networks that have been linked to rising crime rates in the region.

The massive sweep took place on December 10, 2025, at approximately 9:30 PM (2130hrs), in Ika South Local Government Area. The operation was personally led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, heading a formidable contingent of police personnel. Their target was a specific hideout, identified as a notorious hub for the sales and distribution of hard narcotics.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the significant haul in a statement released on Monday. The raid resulted in the apprehension of 161 individuals, a group comprising 110 males and 51 females. The large number of arrests reflects the extensive nature of the drug operation running out of the location.

Critically, the police successfully recovered a substantial quantity of illicit substances from the hideout. The confiscated drugs included highly sought-after and dangerous items such as Nigeria Loud and Canadian Loud—both powerful strains of cannabis—along with cough syrups containing codeine (CSC Codeine), the potent methamphetamine known as Ice, and numerous sachets of 200mg Tramadol, a high-dose opioid. The variety and volume of the seized drugs indicate a significant supply chain was successfully interrupted.

The success of the Buffalo Tactical Team’s operation has been widely commended by the police command, highlighting their commitment to an intelligence-led policing strategy. The raid aims to send a clear message to drug traffickers and abusers that their activities pose a worsening threat to public safety and will not be tolerated. All 161 suspects have since been handed over to the appropriate authorities for comprehensive profiling and further investigation, which is expected to reveal their degree of involvement and potential links to larger criminal networks operating within and outside the state. The Delta State Police Command has vowed to sustain these intensified operations as part of its ongoing efforts to curb the spread of narcotics and reduce crime fueled by substance abuse among the youth.
