APC Chieftain Lauds PDP Rebirth, Slams Wike, Tinubu
In a surprising turn of political commentary, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has extended congratulations to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for its recent strategic moves, which he views as a critical step toward reviving the party’s fortunes. Eze, a founding member of the PDP who later switched allegiance, specifically praised the PDP for its decisive expulsion of former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and other figures, arguing that the action strikes a major blow to what he alleges is President Bola Tinubu’s agenda to establish a one-party state in Nigeria.
Speaking in a statement on Monday, Eze framed the successful conduct of the PDP’s national convention in Ibadan as a victory for democracy. “I congratulate genuine leaders of PDP for the successful conduct of the Ibadan elective convention,” he stated. He accused Wike and his loyalists of acting as “anti-party forces and undemocratic elements,” suggesting their primary mission was to serve the interests of the APC by attempting to “annihilate the PDP and other opposition parties.” Eze highlighted the hypocrisy of these individuals, whom he noted had built their entire political careers within the party they were seemingly attempting to undermine.
The APC chieftain did not mince words when questioning the legacy of the expelled members. “Will history be kind and fair to Wike and his loyalists, as they work round the clock to bring down a party that made them what they are today? Certainly, the answer is capital NO,” Eze asserted. He emphatically backed the PDP’s decision, describing it as “bold and timely” and essential for sanitizing the party ahead of the crucial 2027 general elections. He explicitly supported the expulsion of Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, and nine others, citing their anti-party activities and their attempts to foster disunity through litigation against the party’s interests.
Beyond the immediate PDP internal crisis, Eze used the moment to pivot his criticism toward the ruling APC and President Tinubu. He commended the National Chairman of the PDP, Kabiru Turaki, SAN, for his efforts in repositioning the party. Further, he urged the PDP leadership to actively liaise with the leadership of other opposition parties, such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to combine forces and “ease out Tinubu before he turns the country into a one party State.”
Eze noted that the successful completion of the national convention, despite what he described as concerted efforts by “anti democratic forces to frustrate the conduct,” was a testament to the fighting spirit of genuine PDP leaders. He described the result of the Ibadan convention, particularly the emergence of new national executive committee members, as a “rebirth of a new political order and PDP.”
He concluded with a direct assault on the alleged motives of the expelled members and their perceived APC backers. “They don’t want any strong opposition, they want to kill and bury PDP in the Mediterranean gulf, just to actualize President Tinubu’s grand plot of foisting a one party state on Nigerians,” Eze claimed. He celebrated the convention’s success as a Christmas gift to Nigerians, arguing that the resurgence of the PDP has “dealt a heavy blow on the Tinubu-led APC government’s frantic but subtle moves and heinous agenda to make Nigeria, a one-party State.” For Eze, the failure of the “selfish plot” by Wike and his allies signals a renewed hope for a vibrant and competitive Nigerian democracy.
