Amotekun Arrests Kidnap Suspects After Gun Battle in Ondo Forest

Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, have successfully arrested several suspected kidnappers allegedly involved in abduction activities within the state.

Dependable NG reports that the suspects were paraded at the corps’ headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure, the state capital, on Thursday. The commander of the corps, Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended during a special intervention operation code-named ‘Operation Le Won Jade.’

According to Adeleye, the operation was initiated to bolster border patrols and enhance general surveillance during the ember months, a period often associated with heightened insecurity concerns nationwide.

He revealed that the suspects were arrested around 4:50 pm on Monday after operatives responded swiftly to a distress call received from a forested area of the state. The Amotekun commander stated that upon their arrival at the location, the operatives immediately encountered heavy gunfire. Additional operatives and local security personnel were swiftly deployed to engage the assailants and rescue the victims.

Adeleye confirmed that the fierce operation lasted over three hours, resulting in the rescue of four out of the five kidnapped passengers. Tragically, the bus driver was shot dead by the suspects when they initially forced the vehicle to stop.

“Three women and the bus conductor were rescued. One of the women, who was shot by the attackers before Amotekun’s arrival, was stabilised at the corps’ health facility,” the commander stated.
