Alpha-Beta Fires Back at Tax Evasion Claims
Management at Alpha-Beta Consulting LLP has officially broken its silence regarding a wave of online publications accusing the firm of tax evasion and questionable financial practices. In a strongly worded rebuttal, the consulting giant dismissed the reports as entirely baseless, describing the allegations as a calculated smear campaign designed to cause reputational damage.
The company stated that its decision to address the matter publicly was necessary to “set the record straight” and protect its brand from what it calls malicious misinformation. According to Alpha-Beta, the source of these accusations is not an altruistic whistleblower, but a disgruntled former employee whose tenure with the firm ended abruptly on January 7, 2025.
The firm revealed that the individual in question was dismissed following a documented history of professional misconduct and insubordination. They further alleged that the former staff member had breached internal standards, suggesting that the current accusations are a retaliatory strike rather than a legitimate concern for public interest.
A significant point of contention for Alpha-Beta is the timing of these claims. The management pointed out that for several months following his departure, the ex-employee raised no alarms regarding the company’s tax status. The allegations only surfaced once the individual was required to face the Lagos State Police Command regarding unrelated outstanding criminal matters.
This overlap in timing has led Alpha-Beta to question the credibility of the reports. The company suggests that the accusations are being used as a shield or a diversionary tactic against ongoing law enforcement inquiries. They maintain that the narrative being pushed in the media is a fabrication aimed at shifting the focus away from the individual’s own legal troubles.
Beyond the specific claims made by the former staffer, Alpha-Beta noted a suspicious rise in anonymous emails sent to its current workforce. These messages, purportedly from a group calling itself “Concerned Staff & Citizens,” reportedly contain defamatory statements against the company’s leadership. The firm believes these emails are part of a wider, coordinated effort to intimidate its employees and destabilize its operations.
Addressing the technical substance of the allegations, Alpha-Beta categorically denied any involvement in tax evasion. The firm argued that the accusations stem from a fundamental misunderstanding of the law. They clarified that while tax evasion is a criminal act of concealment, they only engage in lawful tax planning and avoidance, which is a standard global practice.
The management emphasized that Alpha-Beta remains fully compliant with all Nigerian tax statutes. To back this claim, they noted that the company has undergone rigorous and routine audits by the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service for several consecutive years. Audits covering 2018 through 2022 were reportedly resolved successfully with no findings of wrongdoing.
Furthermore, the company confirmed that the audit for the 2023–2024 period is currently in progress. Alpha-Beta maintains that it is cooperating fully with the authorities, asserting that no regulatory body or law enforcement agency has ever indicted the firm for tax-related offenses. This clean record, they argue, is proof of their commitment to fiscal responsibility.
The firm also took the opportunity to redefine the narrative surrounding the former employee’s actions. They argued that the leak of company information does not meet the legal or ethical threshold of whistleblowing. True whistleblowing, they contended, requires good faith and accuracy, whereas this situation involves the “bad-faith disclosure” of confidential data for personal gain.
As the legal battle of words intensifies, Alpha-Beta warned that more malicious publications are likely to follow. They urged the public and various media outlets to exercise extreme caution and skepticism when encountering unverified claims. The company stressed that responsible journalism requires verification and balance, especially when dealing with such heavy accusations.
The statement concluded with a firm reassertion of the company’s values, stating that Alpha-Beta remains committed to transparency and ethical business conduct. They have also signaled their intention to pursue legal remedies against those responsible for the “false and defamatory” publications to ensure that their corporate integrity is defended in court if necessary.
For now, the firm continues its operations, focusing on its ongoing audit while bracing for the next phase of this public relations conflict. The saga highlights the increasing tension between corporate entities and former employees in the digital age, where a single report can spark a nationwide debate over corporate ethics and tax compliance.
