Security Breakthrough: Joint Force Repels Midnight Bandit Raid in Akko

A coordinated security operation in the early hours of Tuesday, January 13, 2026, prevented a potential catastrophe in Gombe State as a joint team of police officers, local hunters, and vigilantes successfully repelled an invasion of Guda Lamido village. The incident, which occurred in the Kashere axis of Akko Local Government Area, marks a significant victory for local intelligence networks and the newly intensified “community-first” security strategy adopted by the state command this year.

The alarm was raised at approximately 4:00 AM when distressed residents reported a large mobilization of armed bandits on the outskirts of the village. Responding to the urgent call, a tactical team led by the Gombe State Police Command swiftly converged on the scene. According to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the security operatives engaged the assailants in a fierce gun duel, utilizing their superior knowledge of the terrain to outmaneuver the gang.

“The criminals were forced to retreat into the surrounding forest under the pressure of the combined fire,” DSP Abdullahi stated in a Tuesday evening briefing. He confirmed that no lives were lost and no injuries were sustained among the villagers or the security forces during the encounter. Normalcy has since returned to Guda Lamido, though the atmosphere remains one of heightened vigilance as tactical teams continue to comb the neighboring bushes for the fleeing suspects.

This latest success comes at a critical time for Akko LGA, which has faced a series of security scares in recent weeks, including the tragic murder of two residents in Pindiga town in late December. In response to these emerging threats, Commissioner of Police Umar Ahmed Chuso has ordered the immediate intensification of 24-hour patrols across the Kashere-Pindiga corridor. The command’s proactive stance aims to shut down the transit routes often used by bandits operating from the border forests between Gombe and Bauchi states.

The Gombe State Government has also stepped up its support for these operations, recently unveiling tough security measures that include the profiling of all non-residents and a total ban on scrap metal trade to curb the logistics of criminal elements. As the 2026 academic and farming sessions begin, residents are being urged to maintain a “see something, say something” policy, with the police emphasizing that timely information remains the most potent weapon in foiling future attacks before they reach residential homes.
