Adamawa Police Enforce Strict Speed Limits After Violent Yola Overspeeding Incident
The Adamawa State Police Command has issued a stern warning to motorists following a high-speed collision in the capital city of Yola. The incident, which occurred on Friday evening near the Bekaji Underpass, involved two young drivers in Mercedes-Benz vehicles engaged in what eyewitnesses described as illegal road racing. The crash resulted in severe damage to both cars, the destruction of government-owned street lights, and injuries to the occupants of the vehicles.
Official Advisory and Speed Regulations
In a traffic safety advisory signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the command emphasized that such reckless behavior poses a significant threat to public safety and infrastructure. Commissioner of Police Dankombo Morris has directed that speed limits be strictly enforced across the state to prevent future occurrences. Motorists are formally reminded that the maximum allowable speed within metropolitan areas and city streets is 50 kilometres per hour, while highways carry a maximum limit of 100 kilometres per hour.
The police statement highlighted that driving beyond these established limits will now lead to immediate legal consequences and strict enforcement actions. Authorities are urging the public to prioritize patience and safety over dangerous competition on public roads, noting that the destruction of public property alongside personal injury is a high price to pay for reckless driving.
