Osun APC Chieftain Hails Bola Oyebamiji’s Consensus Candidacy as Harbinger of Victory
A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has expressed staunch confidence that the emergence of Bola Oyebamiji as the party’s gubernatorial candidate is the essential move that guarantees the APC’s victory in the August 8, 2026, governorship election. Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye lauded the process that led to Oyebamiji’s selection, framing it as a testament to the party’s maturity and cohesion.
Oyintiloye singled out the choice of Oyebamiji, who secured the nomination through a consensus arrangement, as a success story that should be celebrated by the entire party hierarchy and membership. He extended particular gratitude to the other aspirants who willingly stepped down, praising their sacrifice as an act of unity that strengthened the APC’s front ahead of the main contest. According to the APC chieftain, the harmonious manner in which Oyebamiji emerged from a crowded field of contenders is a definitive indication of the growth, discipline, and “excellence in character” that the All Progressives Congress is recognized for. This seamless transition, he suggested, preemptively neutralized internal divisions that could have hampered the party’s electoral prospects.
The former lawmaker further connected the potential victory in Osun to the broader national agenda. He asserted that with Oyebamiji leading the ticket, the APC’s anticipated success at the polls will ensure that President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” is smoothly and effectively implemented in the governance of Osun State without any friction. Oyintiloye emphasized that having successfully navigated the primary phase, the party’s focus must now be entirely trained on the general election. He reiterated his firm belief that “Oyebamiji as our candidate is a right step towards a victory awaiting APC,” though he injected a note of caution, adding, “We must, however, work hard as a family united with a purpose for the victory to be won.”
Oyintiloye recalled that before the consensus decision, there were numerous predictions from external observers of an inevitable implosion within the Osun APC. These forecasts were fueled by the unusually large number of aspirants who initially threw their hats into the ring for the gubernatorial ticket. He credited the strategic intervention and guidance of the party’s national and state leaders for averting the predicted crisis and ensuring a smooth, unified primary process. He specifically commended the role played by President Bola Tinubu, the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, Chief Bisi Akande, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and others, acknowledging their commitment and wisdom in steering the Osun chapter towards a successful and bloodless primary.
In a plea directed at the state’s party leadership, Oyintiloye urged them to continue strengthening the party structure and foster internal reconciliation to make the final push for the governorship victory as seamless as possible. He sought to reassure the electorate, promising that if elected, Oyebamiji would preside over a “people-friendly government” dedicated to implementing policies and programs that would have a tangible and positive impact on the lives of Osun residents. Finally, the chieftain issued a rallying cry to all APC members across Osun State, urging them to intensify their efforts and unite behind Oyebamiji with the singular goal of returning the party to power in the state. The consensus choice, he concluded, has provided the unity; the next challenge is to translate that unity into a resounding electoral success.
