Kwara Police Confirm Daylight Armed Robbery in Ilorin Metropolis

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed a daylight armed robbery incident that occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Friday along the highly trafficked Post Office-Murtala Mohammed road in Ilorin, the state capital. The location of the attack, situated in the heart of the metropolis, has raised serious safety concerns among residents.

Dependable NG reports that the driver of a Sienna vehicle was attacked by armed men in the robbery. The victim sustained a gunshot injury to his palm, and the assailants successfully carted away an undisclosed large sum of money. The police confirmed that the injured driver is currently receiving medical attention.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) for the Kwara State Command, Adekimi Ojo, has ordered a discreet investigation into the violent incident. In response to the breach of security, the CP has also taken immediate steps to strengthen security across the Ilorin metropolis, ordering enhanced deployments and increased police visibility patrols to reassure the concerned residents.

A statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, conveyed the CP’s advice to the public, urging residents to avoid carrying large sums of cash. The CP encouraged the use of online transactions whenever possible and stressed that where cash movement is unavoidable, citizens should utilize trusted bank escort services. The command also advised the public to immediately report any suspicious movements or persons observed around banks or other financial locations.
