Governor Fubara Explains PDP Exit, Declares Joining APC a ‘Spiritual Assignment’
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has publicly revealed the reasons behind his decision to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The governor, who had announced his defection earlier in the week, stated that the move was primarily to align the state with the political direction of President Bola Tinubu.
Dependable NG reports that Governor Fubara received his official APC membership card on Friday at the Government House in Port Harcourt from the party’s state chairman, Chief Tony Okocha. During the brief ceremony, the governor described his switch as a “spiritual assignment,” emphasizing that joining the ruling party would ensure a more seamless and effective working relationship with the Federal Government.
The governor stressed that the state’s political trajectory must harmonize with that of the President for the sake of stability and development. He stated: “As you have said, this is indeed a spiritual assignment because it concerns the safety, progress, and growth of Rivers State. We cannot pursue a different direction when the President is pursuing another.”
Fubara noted that the defection is part of his commitment to contribute meaningfully to President Tinubu’s re-election efforts in Rivers State. He expressed gratitude to the APC leadership for their warm reception, affirming that his decision was made solely in the interest of the state’s stability and development. Furthermore, Governor Fubara pledged his total support to strengthen the APC structure, members, and executives in the state, assuring the chairman that the party would remain active and fully functional under his watch.
