Ekiti Queens Banished to Abeokuta, Fined N2.5 Million by NWFL
The Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) has imposed severe sanctions on Ekiti Queens, ordering the club to play its home matches in Abeokuta and fining the club N2.5 million for assaulting match officials. The incident occurred during the team’s Matchday Three home clash against Edo Queens on Wednesday.
Dependable NG reports that Ekiti Queens lost the encounter 1-0, with Atume Doosuur scoring the decisive goal for Edo Queens in the 67th minute. The NWFL described the incident as a serious breach of the league’s safety and conduct regulations, emphasizing that the penalties are intended to serve as a deterrent to all clubs across the league.
As part of their punishment for the misconduct, Ekiti Queens will be required to play their next three designated home games at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta.
The club is currently struggling to find form in the NWFL this season, having recorded one draw and suffered two losses in their opening fixtures.
