AC Milan defender, Fikayo Tomori, has claimed that the reason he never featured for Nigeria’s Super Eagles is straightforward: he was never officially invited to play for the country.

Dependable NG reports that the 27-year-old center-back currently represents England at the international level. Tomori, who was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, to Nigerian parents, was eligible to represent all three nations. He rose to prominence through the Chelsea Academy, making his breakthrough under Frank Lampard during the 2019/2020 season.

After initially playing for the Canadian youth national team, he ultimately switched his allegiance to England’s U-19 team when he was 18.

Speaking on the Filthy Fellas Podcast, Tomori expressed his affinity for the Nigerian team: “Nigeria isn’t bad, though. All my boys are there. Ola [Aina] is there, Mola [Lookman] is there, and Alex [Iwobi] is there.”

He clarified that the choice to play for England was essentially made for him: “It’s not like I wouldn’t have played there, but they never called me, so I never had a choice to make. If they called me, I would have a decision to make, but they never officially called me.”
